Heavens Gate

If you've seen photos of Bali's famous split gate with Mount Agung in the background, you're looking at Lempuyang Temple, better known as "Heaven's Gate." This ancient Hindu temple, perched high in the mountains, is one of Bali's most sacred sites and offers stunning panoramic views, especially when the weather is clear. Why Visit Heaven's Gate? The Iconic Split Gate Photo: The Candi Bentar (split gate) creates a perfect frame of Mount Agung, making this one of the most photographed spots in Bali. One of Bali's Oldest Temples: Lempuyang Temple is part of Pura Sad Kahyangan, six key temples that protect Bali from evil spirits. It has been a spiritual pilgrimage site for centuries. Breathtaking Mountain Views: Set high up in East Bali, the temple overlooks lush green valleys, rolling hills, and the sea in the distance.
Tips for Visiting
Arrive Early (Like, Really Early!): If you want that famous photo without waiting hours, get there before sunrise. By midday, wait times for pictures can be 2+ hours!
Bring a Sarong: Proper temple attire is required, covering your knees and shoulders. Sarongs are usually available for rent at the entrance.
Be Ready for a Long Drive: It takes 2-3 hours from Ubud or Canggu, so plan a full-day trip and combine it with nearby attractions like Tirta Gangga Water Palace.
Photo Trick (No Actual Water Reflection): The famous "water reflection" effect in photos is actually done using a mirror trick by local photographers, don't expect an actual water pool!
Respect the Sacred Site: This is an active place of worship, so be mindful of ongoing ceremonies and avoid loud behavior.
