Maddens Falls is a picturesque waterfall located in Dharawal National Park, near Darkes Forest, New South Wales. This serene spot offers visitors a chance to experience natural beauty through a short and accessible walk, making it suitable for families and nature enthusiasts alike. Waterfall: Maddens Falls features a cascading waterfall that drops from Maddens Creek into the pools below. The surrounding area is adorned with lush vegetation, including acacias, native river roses, and sprawling ferns, creating a vibrant display, especially during spring. Walking Track: The Maddens Falls walking track is an easy 1.1-kilometer return journey, taking approximately 20 minutes to complete. The path leads through unique upland swamp communities to a viewing platform that offers scenic views of the waterfall and the gorge below.

Tips for Visiting


  • Access: To reach Maddens Falls, drive along Darkes Forest Road for about 2.5 kilometers until you see the management trail signpost on the left and Glenbernie Orchard on the right. Parking is available near the trailhead. 

  • Best Time to Visit: The falls are particularly captivating after rainfall when the water flow is at its peak. Visiting during spring offers the added advantage of witnessing blooming wildflowers. 

  • Facilities: While the trail is well-maintained, there are limited facilities. It's advisable to bring your own water and snacks. Picnic tables are available near the car park for those wishing to enjoy a meal amidst nature. 

  • Safety: The trail is generally easy and suitable for all ages. However, if you plan to explore areas beyond the designated paths, exercise caution, especially after rain, as surfaces can be slippery. 

  • Nearby Attractions: Directly across from the Maddens Falls car park is the Glenbernie Orchard, a great spot to visit before or after your walk. They offer local produce and award-winning apple ciders, providing a delightful addition to your trip.
