If there's one viewpoint you absolutely can't miss on Terceira, it's Serra do Cume. This incredible miradouro (lookout point) sits high above the island, offering a jaw-dropping panoramic view of Terceira's famous patchwork fields, rolling hills, and coastline. Standing at the top, it feels like you're looking down at a giant quilt of green pastures, divided by stone walls and hedges, one of the most iconic landscapes in the Azores. Why Is This View So Special? A Natural Balcony Over Terceira: The viewing platform lets you take in a sweeping, unobstructed view over the Faja da Praia da Vitoria on one side and the island's volcanic hills on the other. One of the Best Photo Spots on the Island: No matter the time of day, the view is absolutely stunning, but it's especially magical at sunrise and sunset. It's Easy to Reach: Unlike some miradouros that require a hike, Serra do Cume is accessible by car, so you can just drive up and enjoy the view.

Tips for Visiting

  • Check the Weather Before You Go: This spot is high up and can get foggy, especially in the mornings. If it looks cloudy, wait for clearer skies, or check the live webcams if available.

  • Bring a Jacket: Even on warm days, it's windy up here! A light jacket or sweater will make your visit more comfortable.

  • Best Time to Visit: Sunrise and sunset offer the most dramatic lighting, but even midday, the view is worth the stop.

  • Pair It with a Drive Around the Island: Since it's a quick stop, combine it with a road trip around Terceira's scenic east side.
