The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne stands as a solemn tribute to the service and sacrifice of Australian men and women in war and peacekeeping missions. Erected in 1934, this iconic landmark is situated on Birdwood Avenue, approximately 1.3 kilometers from Flinders Street Railway Station. Its classical architectural design draws inspiration from ancient mausoleums, notably the Tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus and the Parthenon in Athens. Key Features: Sanctuary and Stone of Remembrance: At the heart of the Shrine lies the Sanctuary, housing the Stone of Remembrance. Engraved with the words "Greater love hath no man," the stone is uniquely illuminated by a ray of sunlight at 11 a.m. on November 11th each year, marking the precise moment of the Armistice that ended World War I.

Galleries of Remembrance: Located beneath the Shrine, these galleries showcase over 800 artifacts, photographs, uniforms, and artworks, chronicling Australia's military history from the 1850s to contemporary peacekeeping efforts.
