Haliewa Beach

Haleiwa Beach is one of those classic North Shore spots where you can kick back, soak up the sun, and enjoy the slower side of Oahu. It's not the best for swimming, but it’s perfect for watching surfers, spotting sea turtles, and catching a gorgeous sunset. If you’re exploring Haleiwa town, this is a great spot to take a break and enjoy the view! Why Visit Haleiwa Beach? Surfer Vibes: North Shore is famous for its big waves, and while Haleiwa Beach isn’t as intense as Pipeline or Waimea, you’ll still see surfers catching waves, especially in the winter. Turtle Watching: This is a hotspot for Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu), especially near the rocky areas. You might spot them basking on the sand or swimming near the shore. Just remember to keep a respectful distance! Chill Sunset Spot: If you’re in the area, Haleiwa Beach is a great place to unwind and watch the sky light up in the evening. Bring a blanket and enjoy the view! Kayaking & Paddleboarding: The nearby Anahulu River (right next to the beach) is a great spot for paddleboarding or kayaking, with calm waters and scenic surroundings.

Tips for Visiting

  • Best Time to Visit: Early morning for a peaceful vibe or sunset for great colors.

  • Swimming: Not the best. The rocky bottom and waves make it more of a scenic beach than a swimming spot.

  • Parking: There's free parking, but it fills up on weekends. Arrive early!

  • Nearby Eats: Grab a famous Matsumoto Shave Ice or hit up a garlic shrimp truck nearby.

  • Turtles: You might see turtles near the shore, but stay 10 feet away to respect wildlife rules.

Thoughts from my Visit

This beach resides on the outskirts of historic Haleiwa. A neat little town to walk around in, look through the shops and grab a bite to eat. Seemed like there was more then enough parking, and when I was there, it was not crowded at all. There is a beautiful monument there, paying tribute to local fallen soldiers.
