Hanauma Bay
If you’re looking for the best snorkeling experience on Oahu, Hanauma Bay is the place to go. This protected marine reserve is home to hundreds of colorful fish, coral reefs, and even the occasional sea turtle. The bay itself is a stunning curved volcanic crater, making it feel like a private slice of paradise. Why Visit Hanauma Bay? Amazing Snorkeling: The calm, shallow waters make this the best spot on the island to see parrotfish, butterflyfish, eels, and sea turtles (honu) up close. Unique Volcanic Landscape: The bay was formed inside a collapsed volcanic crater, which is why it has its crescent shape and crystal-clear waters. Calm & Family-Friendly: The reef blocks big waves, so it's perfect for beginners and kids who want to snorkel without strong currents. Protected Marine Life: Since it’s a nature preserve, fish aren’t afraid of people, and you can see tons of marine life right near the shore.

Thoughts from my Visit
Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is a beautiful destination located on the southeastern side of Oahu. It is formed within a volcanic cone and is a great place to snorkel or scuba dive. The bay is protected by vertical crater walls and a reef which help keep the water calm. You need to make a reservation in advance. Plan on arriving early to insure you get a parking spot. They will not let you in until your reservation time.
