Kawakui Beach

A Peaceful Local Hangout on Oahu’s South Shore. If you're looking for a quiet beach park away from the crowds, Kawaikui Beach Park is a great spot. Located along Kalanianaʻole Highway, just past Hawaiʻi Kai, this beach isn’t a major tourist destination, but it’s a favorite among locals for fishing, picnicking, and relaxing. The rocky shoreline and reef mean it's not the best for swimming, but it’s a great place to enjoy ocean views, a peaceful atmosphere, and the occasional stunning sunset. Why Visit Kawaikui Beach Park? Chill & Uncrowded: Unlike Waikiki or Kailua, this beach park stays pretty quiet, making it perfect for a peaceful getaway. Good for Fishing & Picnics: You’ll often see local fishermen and families having picnics in the grassy areas. Beautiful Sunsets: Since it's on the south shore, it’s a great spot to watch the sun go down over the ocean. Launch Point for Kayakers & Surfers: Some people launch kayaks or paddleboards from here to explore the coastline, but be aware of the shallow reef.

Tips for Visiting

  • Best Time to Go: Morning for solitude, or late afternoon for sunset views.

  • Swimming: Not ideal, as it’s rocky and shallow, but wading is possible.

  • Parking: Free parking lot, but limited spaces.

  • Facilities: Bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, and shaded areas are available.

  • Bring Food & Drinks: No food vendors nearby, so pack a picnic if you’re staying a while.

Thoughts from my Visit

Kawaiku'i Beach Park doesn't really have a pretty sandy beach. The grass park area is a nice size and there are bathrooms and picnic tables. It's not a place you can really go to play in the water. It's very rocky and what sand is there is covered with rocks. The water here is calm so you could do kayaking paddle boarding. Not crowded at all and might be a nice place for a picnic with a nice view of the ocean.
