Twin Falls Hike

1.8 miles 347ft elevation Out & Back Hard

If you’re looking for an easy, family-friendly waterfall hike on Maui’s famous Road to Hana, Twin Falls is a perfect first stop. Located in Ho’olawa Valley, this lush trail leads to multiple waterfalls, natural swimming pools, and scenic rainforest views. Unlike some of the more remote Hana waterfalls, Twin Falls is easily accessible, making it a great quick adventure or a relaxing place to take a dip in fresh, cascading water. Why Visit Twin Falls? The main falls are the twin cascades near the beginning of the trail, but if you keep hiking, you’ll find even more hidden waterfalls and pools. A Fun, Easy Hike: At only 1.5 miles round trip, the trail is relatively flat with some muddy spots, making it great for beginners and families. Swim Under a Waterfall: The pools beneath the falls are refreshing and swimmable, so bring a swimsuit if you’re up for a dip! Perfect for Photos: With lush jungle scenery, flowing waterfalls, and hanging vines, this is one of the best quick photo stops on the Road to Hana. Stop at the Twin Falls Farm Stand: Right at the entrance, you’ll find a local farm stand selling fresh fruit, smoothies, and coconut water—the perfect post-hike refreshment!

Tips for Hiking

  • Best Time to Visit? Early morning (before 10 AM) to avoid crowds. The waterfalls are best after light rain but can be muddy.

  • How to Get There: Located at Mile Marker 2 on Hana Highway (Hwy 360), just past Paia. About a 20-minute drive from Kahului.

  • Trail Difficulty: Easy to moderate—some areas are muddy and slippery, so wear sturdy shoes or water sandals.

  • Bring Water Shoes: If you plan to swim or cross streams, water shoes help with slippery rocks.

  • Respect Private Property: Some areas are off-limits. Follow the signs and stay on designated trails.

  • Check for Flash Floods: Since it’s a waterfall hike, be aware of sudden rainstorms that can cause flash flooding. If water levels rise quickly, leave immediately.

Thoughts from my Hike

The access to Twin Falls is provided to the public for free by Wailele Farm. They have a nice stand right before you enter. The parking lot is right off the Hana Highway and is a nice size. However it does gets full quick, so you may have to cruise back and forth until someone leaves. The hike is a not that long, with a nice path for most of the way.
