If you're exploring the Road to Hana, Upper Waikani Falls is one of the most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls along the drive. Also known as the "Three Bears" Falls, this stunning trio of waterfalls cascades down lush volcanic rock into a serene pool below, making it a classic stop for nature lovers and photographers. It’s easy to admire from the road, but if you’re up for an adventure, you can hike down for a closer look and even take a swim! Why Visit Upper Waikani Falls? The three side-by-side waterfalls, often called the "Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear" Falls, create a perfect jungle scene straight out of a postcard. Amazing Photo Spot: You can snap great waterfall shots right from the road, but the best pictures come from getting down to the pool below. A Refreshing Swim Spot: If you hike down, you can take a dip in the cool, clear pool beneath the falls for an authentic Maui waterfall experience. Lush Rainforest Surroundings: The area is covered in vibrant green foliage, moss-covered rocks, and tropical plants, making it feel completely untouched and magical. Quick & Easy Stop on the Road to Hana: Located right off the Hana Highway, it’s one of the easiest waterfalls to access, making it a must-see stop.

Tips for Visiting

  • Best Time to Visit? Morning for fewer crowds and after light rain for a stronger waterfall flow (but be cautious of slippery conditions).

  • How to Get There: Located at Mile Marker 19 on Hana Highway (Hwy 360), you can see it from the road!

  • Parking is Tricky: There’s limited parking just past the falls, be careful, as it's a narrow road with blind turns. Only park where it’s safe!

  • Hiking Down to the Pool: There’s a steep, unmarked trail on the right side of the bridge leading to the base of the falls. It's muddy and slippery, so wear sturdy shoes.

  • Be Careful Around Rocks: The rocks near the falls are slippery, and the pool can have strong currents after heavy rain, so be mindful when swimming.

  • Respect the Environment: Stay on designated paths, avoid stepping on fragile plants, and always pack out what you bring in.
